General information

FamYX can be used on all PCs with Windows 98, NT, 2000, ME, XP and Vista

FamYX works with six family tree views: Descendants, Male Descendants, Pedigree, Ancestral Line, General Form, Pedigree Form. In Descendants, Male Descendants or Pedigree more than 100 (maximum of 114) generations can be created. Via the main menu
persons and relations can be directly inserted through the two lists: List of Persons and List of Relations. While inserting data of persons
and relations you can have the option to work with or without the date check . 

Nearly all main family tree programs assume that the woman’s partner is a man and vice versa. However, lately there is an increased need to give same sex relations a place in a family tree. All those programs do not offer this option or only with a great deal of complex technical tricks. In FamYX it is simple to add male- male or female – female and to show those in all further overviews and reports.

Apart from all the standard personal data like name, birth, death and marriage, you can add a picture file to each person with a picture, family crest, etc. belonging to this person.

Five variables have been put apart for your own personal data sections. Here you can add information to each person which you cannot put elsewhere. If several family members are working on their family tree or others want to exchange family tree data with you, then you can add their family tree data to your own family tree via the help program “Merging of Family Trees”.
 
Simple to learn and user friendly

FamYX is clear, can be mastered and put to use quickly. A comprehensive, context-sensitive help function can be consulted at all times.
The F1 button provides support which is relevant for the place you find yourself within the program.
FamYX has its own icon and a design which clearly indicates standard functions. The menu - structure and the routing through the program
are well organised and practical.

Within FamYX you can insert persons and relations in many ways.
An overview of Descendants or Male Descendants can easily grow to big and unmanageable proportions, so that working on it in the limited space which a computer monitor has is not very practical.
FamYX provides the solution to chose a “temporary”  Ancestor and – if necessary- limiting the number of generations shown. Thus you can work on each branch or sub branch of the family tree seperately, i.e. in a family view.
 
Overviews and reports
In the main menu various overviews can be made of all persons in your family tree or of selected group of persons – under certain conditions.
In the same way you can make an overview of all relations in your family tree.

Various graphs/charts and text reports of Descendants, Ancestral Line and Male Descendants can be generated.
Moreover, at each point where you can call up the personal data form you can generate a detailed overview of all data sections
concerning that person.

All textual overviews can also be generated in an HTML, PDF or RTF(Word) format.
 
Uitwisselen met andere stamboomprogramma’s en genealogie onderzoekers
GEDCOM 5.5 is de standaard manier om stambomen d.w.z. gegevens betreffende personen en relaties op te slaan in een bestand. De standaard is ontwikkeld door: “Family History Department of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS)”.  

Met de standaard GEDCOM versie 5.5 kunnen stambomen worden geëxporteerd naar of geïmporteerd uit andere stamboomprogramma’s.  Het is de algemeen erkende standaard om genealogische gegevens uit te wisselen tussen genealogische onderzoekers die verschillende computerprogramma’s gebruiken.  
 
Help- and systemfunctions
Integrated Backup and Restore facilities take care that your (family tree) data are protected against loss, computer breakdown etc.
FamYX contains a list with prefixes of names for the alphabetical arrangement of family names and a list of various types of relations.
You can adapt these lists according to your own wishes.
 
For the Total program various options can be added, such as the screen/ view with which you want to start the program,
date check on or off, general overview of functions in the Descendants, Male Descendants screen, etc.
 
Erfelijkheid
Diverse eigenschappen van personen, zoals intelligentie, ziekte, oorzaak van overlijden, gewicht, kleur haar, ogen etc. zijn erfelijk.
Indien u een bepaalde eigenschap wilt bestuderen kunt u die in een van de User-variabelen invoeren voor de betreffende personen.

Vervolgens kunt u deze eigenschap in een Parenteel zichtbaar maken, ongeveer op dezelfde manier als in de
linksbovenstaande figuur is te zien. FamYX gebruikt zoals u ziet vrijwel dezelfde notatie voor persoon, relatie, man en
vrouw. Bij FamYX echter wordt een relatie door een dubbele band/streep aangegeven en niet door een enkele zoals hier.

Vooral bij klinisch-genetisch onderzoek wordt veel gebruik gemaakt van dit soort grafische presentaties.
Dit gebeurt vaak met programma's die duizenden dollars kosten.
Echter met  FamYX  kunt u deze overzichten ook zo in een handomdraai maken.
